The Predator Ecology and
Astacology Laboratory

WHO WE ARE

The Roth lab in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University investigates critical issues in aquatic ecosystems by integrating field studies, experiments, and modeling. Our current research foci are Red Swamp Crayfish invasions and dietary habits of Great Lakes predatory fishes.

CURRENT RESEARCH

The PEAL lab works closely with State, Federal, and Tribal agencies to investigate critical issues in the management of aquatic ecosystems.

OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT

We engage with management agencies and the general public in a variety of ways.  From professional workshops to Lansing area high schools, we work hard to meet the scientific needs of the people of Michigan and the Great Lakes Basin.

Management Agencies

We collaborate with State, Federal, and Tribal agencies to help provide the best science to aid decision-making
Picture

Schools

We provide experiential learning opportunities in schools to engage students in natural resource issues
Picture

General Public

We bring science to angling groups and citizens that may be affected by crayfish invasions

The Quest for 179

About Us

We're a team of undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral scientists, and everyday technicians who love to get our hands dirty. Whether that means wading in ponds to trap red swamp crayfish or driving across the state on a Saturday to collect stomachs from Great Lakes fishermen, we're here for it.
