#7/179:
Bluegill Sunfish
Lepomis macrochirus
Captured 7/3/20, Park Lake near Bath, MI. Method: Angling. Watershed: Lake Michigan (Grand R.)
Notes: Another species caught with my graduate student Samantha Strandmark on Park Lake. We were fishing for her red swamp crayfish biocontrol project. This was a 'keeper' for the project, meaning that it was the appropriate size to use for her experiments (we have a capture permit). Park Lake is known for having a LOT of small Bluegill, and our results agreed with this sentiment. We caught probably 50 'gills, but only two were large enough for Sam's experiment.
