#21/179:
Yellow Bullhead
Ameiurus natalis
Captured 10/20/20, Looking Glass River, MI near DeWitt, MI. Method: Electrofishing. Watershed: Lake Michigan (Grand R. watershed)
Notes: This was a pleasant surprise of my trip to the Looking Glass. Yellow Bullheads are more often found in ponds and shallow lakes. Although they're not super pretty, they do taste good, fried with a side of hush puppies. I've tried to photograph these guys twice now, and they don't stop moving. These are the best pictures I could get! I really wanted to show how to determine Yellow Bullheads from other bullhead species, but they wouldn't cooperate. I did get a decent picture of their light-colored barbels from another specimen (below), but you won't be able to count anal fin rays..Too bad.
