#17/179:
Johnny Darter
Etheostoma nigrum
Captured 10/20/20, Red Cedar River, MI near Williamston, MI. Method: Electrofishing. Watershed: Lake Michigan (Grand R. watershed)
Notes: My students always remember Johnny Darters. I don't know if it's the funny name, or the relatively bland color pattern. This is a really common fish when I go electrofishing. Johnny Darters can be easily identified by the pattern of W's, X's, and Y's along their midline.
