#5/179:
White Perch
Morone americana
Captured 7/11/20, Brest Bay near Frenchtown, MI. NON-NATIVE. Method: Angling. Watershed: Lake Erie
Notes: Another species caught trolling for walleye on our trip to Lake Erie. This was one of the bigger White Perch I've caught. It was about 10" long. Whenever I see restaurant advertisements for 'Lake Perch' I always wonder if this is what they're serving. White Perch belong to the Family Moronidae (Temperate Basses) that also include White Bass, Yellow Bass, and Striped Bass. White Bass are native to the Great Lakes, but White Perch are an invasive species commonly found in inshore Great Lakes and connecting rivers.
