#11/179:
Coho Salmon
Oncorhynchus kisutch
Captured 9/3/20, 9/12 Platte River, MI, also 7/28 in Lake Huron. NON-NATIVE. Method: Angling. Watershed: Lake Michigan
Notes: It's salmon season! I love Coho. Sure they're smaller than Chinook, but they're more dynamic fighters on rod and reel. They also taste better. The chromer pictured above came from the Lake Huron trip I did with the MDNR, but the pic below comes from when I caught one on the Platte. That was probably the most frustrating fishing I've ever done. The Platte is crystal clear, and Coho are stocked from the Platte River hatchery. There were THOUSANDS of fish. They would swim by in pods of 20-100 fish every five minutes or so. I only got a few bites all day.
