#14/179:
Rainbow Darter
Etheostoma caerulum

Picture
Captured 10/20/20, Red Cedar River, MI near Williamston, MI.  Method: Electrofishing. Watershed: Lake Michigan (Grand R. watershed)

Notes: What a beauty.   I love the picture below the best.  I'm still learning how to take good pictures, and this one isn't quite as in-focus as I'd like.    The focus point is just prior to the dorsal fin rather than its face.  Nonetheless, I like the blue cheeks and red in the pectoral fins.  In the wild, Rainbow Darters are pretty easy to distinguish from other species.  In my class, they lose much of their color.  However, the bars on their side stand out pretty well, but they're usually only on the back half of their body.
