#23/179:
White Sucker
Catostomus commersoni
Captured 10/20/20, Looking Glass River, MI near DeWitt, MI. Method: Electrofishing. Watershed: Lake Michigan (Grand R. watershed)
Notes: White suckers are really common in streams and lakes throughout the Great Lakes and Mississippi R. basins. Their coloration is mottled, and their cross section tends to be almost perfectly round. Their lips are heavily papillose (bumpy).
What I really am upset about at this point is why the hell can't I take a good picture. The one above is the best one, and it's frickin' blurry through the eyes. Check out the first few pics I took. More clear, but my collection bucket (kitty litter) is behind the picture (doh!) and somehow one of my daughter's hairs fell into the water and landed right. on. top. of. the. fish. Plus this picture was taken in the late afternoon, and there's a shadow. Ugh. Hats off to better photographers.
